Many Indian households want to cook for their dog. The useful question is not whether an ingredient is familiar, but whether the entire recipe is suitable and nutritionally complete for this dog.

A recipe needs more than a protein source

UC Davis research found frequent nutritional problems in home-prepared dog recipes. A combination of everyday ingredients can still miss essential nutrients. Do not treat an internet recipe as a complete long-term diet. [1]

Ask for a recipe made for your case

Clinical nutrition services can review the medical and diet history and help create an appropriate plan. Give your vet the dog’s age, weight, health history, current food and the ingredients you can reliably obtain. Ask for quantities, preparation instructions and any specified supplements in writing. [2]

Substitutions are a separate question

Changing ingredients or preparation can change the nutritional result. Ask before replacing an item, leaving out a prescribed supplement or swapping cooked and raw weights. Keep the actual recipe version dated for everyone who prepares the food. [3]

Plan the kitchen handover

List who shops, cooks and measures each batch. Photograph the ingredients and keep batch dates. If the family travels or a boarding provider feeds the dog, send the written plan with a contact for questions. Convenience should be solved within the reviewed recipe.
